The war is over and life begins again for Tove Jansson. When she meets theatre director Vivica Bandler, she falls in love. At the same time, her creativity begins to take an unexpected turn, and that's when she starts writing about the Moomins.
Helsinki, 1945. The end of the war brings a new sense of artistic and social freedom to painter Tove Jansson. While focusing her artistic dreams on painting, the enchanting tales of the 'Moomin' creatures she told to scared children in bomb shelters, rapidly take on a life of their own, bringing international fame and financial freedom. Her desire for liberty is put to the test when she meets theatre director Vivica Bandler, who ignites an electric and all-consuming love inside her. But while she begins to find her artistic identity, she also discovers the true love she yearns for has to be reciprocated, and only by forging her own path can she learn to be free.
